Pensioner beaten up in her home

The woman in her 80s was reportedly attacked by two youths after they gained entry to her house in Belfast.

AN ELDERLY WOMAN has been seriously assaulted by two youths after they gained entry to her home last night.

The victim, who is in her 80s, was hospitalised after the attack in her Belfast home, which left her with cuts and bruising. She was also severely shaken, according to the PSNI.

Two young people are reported to have entered the home on Agnes Street in the north of the city last night before physically assaulting the woman, who called police at around 8pm. It is not currently clear whether anything was stolen in the incident.

The PSNI have appealed for witnesses, or anybody who saw two young people acting suspiciously in the area, to contact them.

This type of crime is happening all to frequent these days. Legislation should be tightened in order to deter these "Animals" from even thinking about committing such a cowardly act. There should be fear imposed by going to court and answering for your actions. Not like the current system where you get a slap on the wrist and told don’t do it again. What makes it more sickening is that here in the Republic the Tax Payer foots the legal aid fees so that a scumbag can hire a solicitor. It just does no make sense :(

I see were people call for tougher laws or these b*stards to be hung but if a story appeared tomorrow that these people were caught and had been beaten and tortured and left for dead by let’s say a paramilitary organisation there would be an outcry with posts complaining about punishment beatings. The bleeding heart brigade would be out in force. There would calls for more funding for rehabilitation of these offenders while this old lady may never recover. I say that an attack like this on an elderly person should not be treated as an assault but as attempted murder. Let’s stop defending this scum and send a clear message that there will be no excuses just a long prison term and when they get out they will be the vunerable ones.
