Petrol bomb-making factory found in Belfast

The factory was found by police during an investigation into recent petrol bomb attacks. Three people have been arrested.

A PETROL BOMB-making factory has been discovered by police during an investigation into bomb attacks in Belfast.

Police conducted a number of searches linked to investigations into recent petrol bomb attacks in the area this afternoon, and searched a disused premises on Tower Street in East Belfast.

Inside, they found the petrol bomb-making factory.

They said the factory has since been dismantled and items were recovered for examination. Searches at another property in Tower Court led to the recovery of a quantity of ammunition and fireworks.

Three individuals have been arrested in connection with these incidents and are assisting police with their inquiries.

Area Commander for East Belfast, Chief Inspector Mark McEwan said:

These seizures are significant and are a clear indication of our ongoing commitment to working with local communities to keep them safe. There has been an increase in tensions at the interface, following a number of incidents that have occurred in both communities, over recent days.

He added that investigations into these incidents are ongoing and the PSNI are appealing to anyone who may have information to contact detectives at Musgrave station on 0845 600 8000.
