Pfizer staff to meet this morning for company "announcement"

The staff are due to meet with management, with fears up to 150 jobs could be lost.

STAFF AT PHARMACEUTICAL giant Pfizer’s plant in Newbridge will meet today as speculation mounts that there will be redundancies.

The company has only confirmed that staff are being called in for an “announcement”, but a Pfizer spokesperson would not comment on what the nature of the announcement was.

She said that the company would not be making any further comment.

It is believed that the meeting will take place early this morning, with local radio station Kfm claiming that there could be up to 150 jobs lost.

The manufacturing plant is coming to the end of a redundancy programme initiated in 2010, which saw a quarter of its staff laid off.

The plant is one of the Kildare town’s biggest employers and has been open since 1992.
