More than 40,000 registered to run the 26.2 mile trek through the UK capital.

TODAY, THE 37TH London Marathon took place.

Over 40,000 runners signed up for the gruelling 26.2 mile run.

Mary Keitany of Kenya was the first woman to cross the line, and managed to break a world record for the women’s-only marathon in the process.

Her time of 2:17:01 was 41 seconds quicker than the time that UK Olympian Paula Radcliffe achieved in the same race in 2005.

In the men’s race, Kenyan Daniel Wanjiru won in a time of 2:05:56.

There were a few familiar faces among the crowds of runners and supporters, as well as a few more colourfully-dressed competitors.
