Pierce Brosnan's daughter dies of cancer, aged 41

Charlotte Brosnan died from ovarian cancer – the same disease that claimed her mother Cassandra Harris 22 years ago.

IRISH ACTOR PIERCE Brosnan is mourning the death of his daughter, Charlotte, who has died from ovarian cancer aged 41.

According to a statement from the star, she passed away on Friday last “surrounded by her husband Alex, children Isabella and Lucas and brothers Christopher and Sean”. It’s understood she died in London.

Pierce says Charlotte fought her cancer “with grace and humanity, courage and dignity”. He continues:

Our hearts are heavy with the loss of our beautiful dear girl. We pray for her and that the cure for this wretched disease will be close at hand soon. We thank everyone for their heartfelt condolences.

The Navan-born actor adopted Charlotte – the daughter of his first wife Cassandra Harris – in 1986, following the death of her father. Cassandra also died of ovarian cancer, at the age of 43, in 1991.

That’s true smear tests don’t check for ovarian cancer, but getting the checks done is still v v important to reduce risks for cervical cancer which is just as terrible as ovarian.
The horror around ovarian cancer is in the difficulty in getting diagnosed!! There are no definitive checks as such. People are often in very late stages when they get diagnosed as symptoms are so similar to other conditions. There is a blood test ca125 marker, but even that’s not great at detecting early stages and is not conclusive. It’s called the silent killer, though there are symptoms that people should be aware off and speak to their doc about..pelvic pain, constant bloating, getting full quickly or trouble eating and urgent trips to loo… However they are all symptoms of other conditions too. The sooner the medical world come up with a definitive test for ovarian cancer the better:((
RIP to Charlotte Brosnan, heartbreaking for her family and so sad she was struck down with the same awful disease as her mother :(

Awful news. This brings back to the fore the importance of regular cervical checks its something alot of us women really ignore. For the sake of a few mins please get checked! Thoughts are with Pierce and his family.

Apologies if i am wrong. I am just reiterating the fact that regular smears/checks are a step in detecting abnormalities. Maybe decreasing risks.

There are a lot of beautiful messages of condolence on here, I could and not even try to match. I do hope she has a much happier time in her next stage of life. I also could not get over the amount of sickos that pass through here judging by the amount of red thumbs they are quite a few.

Maybe now doctors will start to test people properly for this. Suffering g with my ovaries for 8 years, put on the urgent list for a gynaecologist in March 2011. Still on the list for an appointment.

May this lady rest in peace and her death be a reminder to the medical councils of the world to investigate this condition more in depth.

so sad rip to her and condolences to her family, even with all the good work being done in cancer research its not happening quick enough, no matter what age you are cancer is an awful disease but so many young people are being diagnosed i hope soon enough more is invested into finding a cure rather than trying to treat when its often too late especially for cancer such as cervical cancer .
My thoughts are with anyone dealing and battling with this , The irish cancer society offer a great service please donate what you can no matter how small it makes a difference.
