Wolf of Wall Street tops list of most pirated films of 2014

The film was downloaded 30 million times by torrent users around the world.

THE WOLF OF Wall Street was the most pirated film in 2014, followed closely by the likes of Frozen and Gravity.

The Martin Scorsese film, which saw Leonardo DiCaprio play New York stockbroker Jordan Belfort, was downloaded 30 million times by torrent users worldwide between 1 January and 23 December, according to privacy-tracking firm Excipio.

Disney musical Frozen was the second most popular pirated movie, and was downloaded 29.9 million times through similar sites.

The next movie was RoboCop (29.879 million) although Variety reports that this included the original 1987 film as well as the 2014 remake, and Excipio couldn’t tell how many went to either version since they have the same name.

Other popular films included The Hobbit: Desolation of Smaug (27.267 million), Thor: The Dark World (25.749 million), and Captain America: The Winter Soldier (25.268 million).

Other popular movies like Guardians of the Galaxy and The LEGO movie didn’t make the list, as torrent users focused more on Oscar-nominated movies like Gravity, 12 Years a Slave and American Hustle.

The full list of movies is as follows.

1) The Wolf of Wall Street (30.035 million)
2) Frozen (29.919 million)
