This formerly "erotic" calendar is getting praise for celebrating strong women

The Pirelli calendar is better known for risqué shots.

THE PIRELLI CALENDAR has become known for featuring some of the world’s most desired women in an array of provocative poses.

Usually, models look like this:

This year, however, the calendar has, in the words of its photographer Annie Liebovitz done “something completely different”.

The 2016 version of the once erotic calendar features Amy Schumer and Serena Williams:

As well as Yoko Ono:

Other months feature Patti Smith, Fran Lebowitz, Tavi Gevinson, and Natalia Vodianova.

Leibovitz said Pirelli gave her the freedom she needed to pursue a different type of calendar.

“I still can’t believe the women who agreed to do it did it.”

The decision has gone down well with online commentators.

The tyre manufacturer has produced a video on the making of the calendar here.
