Masked men armed with pitchfork terrorise pensioners in farm attack

The residents were aged between their 70s and 90s.

A GROUP OF pensioners — ranging in age from their 70s to their 90s — were said to have been left badly shaken this evening after a gang of men wearing balaclavas stormed their farmhouse in Tyrone.

It happened just before 6pm at the Tullymoan Road near the village of Clady, around 4 miles from Strabane.

The four men — all masked, and wearing black — approached a man in his 70s in the farmyard of the property and forced him to the ground, before breaking into the house. They entered the building using a pitchfork-type implement that they had picked up at the site.

“When inside the house they threatened three other elderly residents in their 70’s,80’s and 90’s and ransacked the property,” PSNI Detective Sergeant Brian Reid said.

“They made off with a small amount of cash in a black car in the direction of Clady.”

Though shaken, the residents inside the house were unharmed in the ordeal.

The man threatened in the farmyard suffered a minor injury.

“I appeal to anyone who noticed any suspicious activity in the Tullymoan Road area or noticed a black car acting suspiciously in the area today or over the weekend to contact CID in Strabane on the non-emergency number 101,” Reid said.
