Watch: Terrifying moment as plane engine bursts into flames during take-off

Yikes.

PASSENGERS ON A Boston-bound plane taking off from Chicago had to be evacuated from the craft earlier this week, after an engine went on fire during take-off.

The sight, to be frank, looks pretty terrifying…

Southwest Airlines said the plane had been evacuated due to a “mechanical issue” on Wednesday night.

A statement, reported by NBC Chicago, said pilots had aborted take-off due to a “performance issue with one of the engines”.

Emergency vehicles met the passengers at the steps of the plane, and a fire department spokesman confirmed smoke was coming from one of the engines.

This passenger, who live-tweeted the whole thing, wasn’t all that bothered by the experience.

“You go through many emotions in a moment like that with a blast like that. You’re unsure of what’s going on or what’s going to happen,” Blain Thayer later told Boston.com.

Passengers boarded a later flight, and made it to Boston in the early hours.
