Poland puts Hitler's bunker up for rent

The Polish Forestry Service hopes to turn the infamous Nazi war base – known as the Wolf’s Lair – into a tourist attraction.

POLAND HAS PUT an infamous Nazi war base – Adolf Hitler’s so-called “Wolf’s Lair” - up for rent.

The huge fortified base, situated in a 13-hectare site in northeastern Poland, served as a strategic camp during WWII – during which point it lay in German East Prussia. It was even the scene of the July 1944 famous failed assassination attempt against the dictator.

Almost 2,000 people were housed at the camp while it was in operation, and Hitler had his henchmen build massive bombproof bunkers there.

Although retreating German troops dynamited most of the bunkers in 1944, visitors still come to view the burned-out shells and it is hoped that the new tenant will turn the site into a tourist attraction, reports the Chicago Tribune.

The owner of the camp, the Polish Forestry Service, has said that it is looking for a new tenant now that the previous lease has expired. It is putting the site up for rent for about €108,000 per year, reports the Telegraph.
