Police call off search for Polish man who was swept into the sea

The man went missing in September during turbulent weather conditions. Members of the public came out in force to assist with the search.

THE POLICE IN Northern Ireland have ended their search operation for Jaroslaw Andrykiewicz, the 38-year-old man believed to have been swept off the rocks and into the sea at Ramore Head, Portrush on Saturday 14 September.

Mr Andrykiewicz is a Polish national who has been living in the Moy area of Dungannon.

Swept into the sea

It is believed he was swept off the rocks into the sea during stormy weather. The police in Coleraine have been in close contact with family members of Mr Andrykiewicz since he was reported missing, with several travelling to Northern Ireland from his native Poland.

Chair of Coleraine Policing and Community Safety Partnership (PCSP), Councillor Sam Cole expressed his deepest sympathies to the family stating:

On behalf of Coleraine PCSP I would like to extend my heartfelt thoughts and prayers to the family and friends of Jaroslaw Andrykiewicz.

He said that it was a “very unfortunate and tragic event which has caused immense distress to this young man’s family”. He added that the incident acts as a stark reminder for everyone to exercise extreme caution when taking part in any activities in close proximity to the sea.

The RNLI have also reiterated their water safety message, saying the majority of deaths happen when people are near the shore, doing seemingly harmless activities like swimming, walking and fishing, adding slips, trips, falls and alcohol contribute to a considerable number of incidents.

The land, previously owned by Janus Securities Ltd., was sold to two housing developers, Killross Properties and Springwood, for over €5 million. The land is currently zoned as Open Space and Amenity, thus it is not possible to build houses on the land. It is unlikely the developers would have bought the land unless they had an expectation that the zoning designation would be changed in their favour. The LAP can be seen on MyPlan. It’s Celbridge Local Area Plan 2017-2023 i.e. the plan will be changed soon.

See Map 13.1 Land Use Zoning Map in this link:

    https://kildarecoco.ie/AllServices/Planning/LocalAreaPlans/LocalAreaPlans/CelbridgeLocalAreaPlan2017-2023/

Judging by the timing of the last LAP, a proposed 2024 – 2029 plan will be released in December and members of the public will have about 6 weeks to submit comments and objections. The plan will be finalised late next year.

There are so many opportunities for the people to better their lives by standing up to private interests through gathering and expressing our objections. In reality the wealthy are petrified of the masses. Somehow, and include myself in this, we are sidetracked entirely by distractions and diversions.

235 privately owned acres of land- land sold by presumably the OPW to raise State funds at great profit. So the people’s representatives have already sold out the people’s rights. What can be done? A contract is a contract. The fallout will favour parties of the opposition.

Btw, Pitbulls are extremely friendly and gentle dogs, it’s the knuckle-hêads who breed them for fighting who need euthanizing.
