Poll: Should Northern Ireland cease prosecutions for pre-Good Friday Agreement killings?

The Northern Ireland Attorney General made the suggestion today, saying that now is a good time to “take stock”.

TODAY, THE NORTHERN Ireland Attorney General John Larkin said that there should be no more investigations, inquiries or convictions into any killings that occurred before the signing of The Good Friday Agreement.

Under Larkin’s proposal, soldiers involved in the Bloody Sunday atrocity, paramilitaries responsible for The Disappeared and the Enniskillen bombing and accusations of collusion would cease to be investigated and no charges pressed.

Larkin said that the move could help some families learn the truth about the deaths of their loved ones.

“We can’t really be surprised if people don’t tell us as long as the theoretical threat of prosecution remains,” he said.

But is he right?

We’re asking: Should Northern Ireland cease prosecutions for pre-Good Friday Agreement killings?
