Poll: Would you be okay with a drug injection centre opening in your area?

Plans are being drawn up for the country’s first such centre, in Dublin. But would you mind if one opened on your road?

PLANS ARE BEING drawn up for the first ever medically-supervised drug injection centre in Ireland. It requires a legislation change, but the Ana Liffey Drug Project hopes to present its plan for the initiative to the Government next year.

Similar schemes for drug users have worked in over 90 centres around the world, according to Ana Liffey Director Tony Duffin.

Dublin Fine Gael TD Catherine Byrne said yesterday that was something the city badly needed, that she supported the proposal in principle.

What if one opened on your street? Would you be alright with that?

Poll Results:

No. Not near me --- they should be away from residential areas. (4119)
Yes. They're something we need. (1545)
No. I'm against the idea of drug injection centres. (1229)
