Poll: Have you noticed the recent VAT rate cut?

The government cut the VAT rate on a range of tourist-related items this week from 13.5 per cent to 9 per cent – but have you seen a difference?

THE VAT RATE for a range of hospitality-related items from cinema visits to restaurants meals took effect yesterday.

The cut from 13.5 per cent to 9 per cent covers newspapers, magazines, takeaway teas and coffees, theatre tickets and hairdressing.

Taoiseach Enda Kenny and Tourism Minister Leo Varadker warned businesses to ensure they passed the cuts on to consumers. The Hotels Federation of Ireland welcomed the rate cut, saying it would help boost the country’s tourism sector.

It’s the first weekend since the rate cut took effect – but have you noticed any difference in prices or in your spending?
