Poll: Should Ireland introduce a formal honours system?

Let us know what you think…

IRELAND HAS NO formal honours system, although some state-run awards schemes do exist – such as the freedom of a city or town or depictions on postage stamps.

Last year, the government announced the Distinguished Service Award for the Irish Abroad, and has previously discussed proposals for a similar mechanism for “recognising the distinguished service of those residents within Ireland”.

Currently, Ireland is one of the few countries in the world that does not have a national system to honour its citizens.

We’d like to know what you think: should Ireland introduce a formal honours system?
