Poll: Should sex offenders be electronically tagged?

Reports today suggest Fine Gael is in favour of the electronic tagging of sex offenders – is this a necessary child protection measure, or is it a breach of their human rights?

TODAY’S IRISH DAILY Mail reports that Fine Gael is planning to introduce a number of child-protection initiatives, including the electronic tagging of future sex offenders – even after they have completed a prison sentence.

The party is reportedly planning to force convicted sex offenders to wear wrist or ankle bracelets that would allow gardaí to monitor them 24 hours a day. Fine Gael has not yet confirmed the report to TheJournal.ie.

But do you think the tagging of sex offenders is a good idea?

Poll Results:

Yes: tag them (417)
No: it's a breach of their rights (113)
I'm undecided (52)
