Poll: Do you think the 9% VAT rate for the hotel and tourism industry should remain?

Minister Noonan said the VAT reduction was only meant to be a temporary measure, indicating it would rise in the next budget.

MINISTER FOR FINANCE Michael Noonan has indicated that the 9 per cent rate of VAT for the hotel and tourism industry will rise in the forthcoming Budget.

It was reduced from 13.5 per cent in 2011. Minister Noonan has stated that the reduction was only ever meant to be a temporary measure.

Many restaurants and hoteliers are lobbying for the VAT rate to remain indicating that it is stimulating the tourism industry.
