Poll: Would holding the election on the weekend increase voter numbers?

Senator Kathryn Reilly says the government must be mindful of people commuting long distances or students away from home mid-week.

ANY DAY NOW Enda Kenny will call the general election.

The candidates are already out canvassing, all we need now is a date. Though the Taoiseach has said he already has a date in mind, today Sinn Féin Senator Kathryn Reilly called on him to hold the election on a weekend. This, she said, would enable as many people as possible to vote.

We need to respond to the realities of the lives of Irish people today and design our voting times and arrangements to suit them. We must be mindful of those people who are commuting long distances for work or who may be away from home during the week, such as students.

We want to know what you think: Would polling on a weekend increase voter numbers?

Poll Results:

Yes, it would help (5509)
No it would't make a difference (2122)
I'm not sure (361)
