Post-mortem due on man who died after swimming in lake

The 26-year-old was taken from the water by his friends but was pronounced dead in hospital.

A POST-MORTEM is due to take place today on a man in his 20s who died after going swimming in a lake with friends yesterday.

The 26-year-old got into difficulty while swimming in a lake in the Knockanagartan area in Virginia, Co Cavan at around 10pm last night.

Gardaí said he was taken from the water to the lakeshore by friends, and was then taken by ambulance to Cavan General Hospital.

He was pronounced dead at the hospital.

A full post-mortem will take place on the man today, gardaí said.
