More than 2,000 homes without power in Cork as strong winds batter the country

A weather warning is due to be lifted this morning.

MORE THAN 2,000 homes and businesses are without power this morning as strong winds battered the country overnight.

A weather warning was in place for several coastal counties, with gusts of up to 90 km/hr predicted.

Although the strongest winds were predicted for the northwest, Cork is worst hit by power outages.

Some 2021 homes are without power this morning in the region, according to the ESB, with another 297 in Galway.

There are also small, localised outages in Clare, Donegal, Sligo, and Wexford,

If you’re out on the roads this morning, watch out for wet conditions and debris.

The weather warning is due to remain in place until 8am this morning, with isolated showers, along with the fresh southwesterly winds, to clear by early afternoon.

Temperatures will range between 7 to 12 degrees.
