Price comparison: What can I buy around Co Wexford on a €600k budget?

Four large and private detached homes in the Model County.

THIS WEEK WE’RE heading to the sunny southeast to find out what you could get for under €600k in the current climate.

It can be hard to find the time to trawl through listings, so let us do some of the work for you. If you’re looking to buy in Wexford town or county, one of these houses may just be the home you’ve been waiting for.

Five-bed detached, Fethard: €595,000

A cottage that has been extended, this large 233 m² family home overlooks the Bannow Estuary and the coastline. Located near Saltmills village, and close to Fethard and Duncannon, the larger towns of Wexford and New Ross are a 30 minute drive away.

A lovely blend of old and new, this home is tastefully decorated inside and knows where to get the best light. A dual height glazed area lets the natural light pour in and also takes in the sea view. The open plan kitchen and dining space faces south and leads onto the sunroom.  There are also two more lounges, while up on the first floor, there are four big bedrooms. The main one has its own balcony.

Four-bed, detached, Murrintown: €565,000

Kildavin Lodge is a large cottage that has a lot of history seeing as it was once part of the Johnstown estate. This 159 m² house is approached through electric gates and then by a driveway. This gives the lodge a particularly secluded setting while being 1.5 km from Murrintown village and a ten minute drive from Wexford Town.

Inside, there’s an entrance hall, a sitting room, a sunroom, and a pretty country-style kitchen along with a utility room and a family bathroom. Upstairs sit four bedrooms, one of which has an en suite bathroom. There are timber floors wherever you go and plenty of original features like the high ceilings, a fireplace and the shutters. A patio area to the back lets you take in the surrounding garden that’s home to a gazebo and detached studio.

Five-bed, detached, Wexford Town: €595,000

Barraderragh House is a 279 m² bungalow with luxurious touches throughout – one of the latest being a swimming pool and a large south facing decking area, complete with jacuzzi, which were all added during lockdown. Located on a cul-de-sac it might be surprising that busy Wexford town is on the doorstep.

Inside are two sitting rooms and a bright kitchen that benefits from a dual aspect. The five bedrooms (the main has an en suite bathroom) and the family bathroom sit along the corridor. There is also a 63 sq m basement that has its own separate entrance – a rare thing in an Irish home.

Five-bed, detached, Newbawn: €585,000

Kilbraney House is an even bigger five-bed. A whopping 320 m², the house sits behind electric gates and on 1.5 acres. Inside begins with an entrance hall and a sitting room that enjoys a triple aspect. The ground floor also has a home office, toilet and a utility room. A dining room also sits separate from the large kitchen that includes a range cooker and all of the appliances keen cooks need. The main bedroom on the first floor has a walk-in wardrobe and large en suite shower room. In addition, there is a guest bedroom suite, three more bedrooms and a family bathroom.

Kilbraney House is ideally located close to a number of excellent schools and the N25 making Wexford, Waterford and New Ross very accessible.
