RTE Prime Time creche investigation to air tonight

The station has promised parents it will only broadcast the programme once and it will not by uploaded to the RTE Player.

RTE WILL TONIGHT broadcast the controversial Prime Time investigation that sparked a garda and HSE investigation into childcare standards at three creches.

Following consultation with the parents, the station has agreed to only air the RTE Investigation Unit report A Breach of Trust once (tonight at 9.35pm)  and  it will not be uploaded on the RTE Player for future viewing.

In a statement released today, RTE said: “It is the express wish of the parents of the children involved that no screen grabs or audio relating to crèche footage are reproduced in broadcast, print or online.”

The programme caused widespread concern last week when details of childcare standards in three creches based in Dublin and Wicklow were reported to the HSE and gardai.

Undercover RTE reporters secretly filmed staff in Links crèche in Abington, Giraffe crèche in Belarmine, Stepaside, and Little Harvard in Rathnew and found a number of worrying breaches of childcare guidelines.

The investigation will reveal various levels of mistreatment including  rough handling, shouting and unnecessarily strapping children into chairs.

The programme will be presented by Oonagh Smyth and will be followed by a live studio discussion on Prime Time presented by Claire Byrne.
