Prisoner attacked two officers escorting him from hospital

One officer had facial injuries while the other had an injury to his shoulder.

TWO PRISON OFFICERS were attacked while escorting a prisoner from hospital yesterday.

The prisoner was taken from Castlerea Prison to Merlin Park Hospital in Galway to get a cast removed from his leg.

It’s understood that the prisoner was being difficult while being treated.

When the prison escort pulled up at Castlerea the prisoner launched an unprovoked attack on the officer who opened the door of the van.

Prison sources told TheJournal.ie that he launched at the first officer and punched him in the face, the second officer was also injured.

The officers were treated for their injuries in hospital. One officer had facial injuries while the other had an injury to his shoulder.

The officers got out of hospital this morning.
