Industrial output falls slightly in June

CSO figures published today show that although manufacturing volume rose between Q1 and Q2 2011, overall June’s output dropped slightly on last year’s levels.

MANUFACTURERS in Ireland produced very slightly more in the second quarter of 2011 than in Q1, but production was down by 0.6 per cent in June 2011 compared to last year.

New figures from the Central Statistics Office (CSO) also show that in the period April – June 2011, o.1 per cent more was produced by manufacturing industries across the country than for the proceeding three months.

According to the report, the ‘modern’ sector  - which covers the high-tech and chemical sectors – showed an annual decrease of 1.2 per cent in production volumes in June 2011.

However, the CSO says that ‘traditional’ sector industries produced 1.1 per cent more over the year to June 2011.
