IF THE KIDS have flown the nest and you’re looking to downsize, moving to somewhere as idyllic as the Cork coast may not take too much convincing.

Just a minute’s walk from Guileen beach in Whitegate, sits this 63 m² detached home. While the floor area inside may seem modest to some, no doubt the expansive views right out the window will contribute to a sense of much more space. There’s no doubt that when a home this close to the sea hits the market, it doesn’t stay listed for long.

A two-bed home that makes the most of the sea view, the kitchen living and dining area is a cosy yet bright open plan space that incorporates double glazed windows on three sides.

The current figuration of the house sees one of the bedrooms as a handy utility room that’s just off the kitchen. A large double bedroom and a main bathroom completes the ground floor.

But, there is a large attic space that could be easily converted into a bedroom or a utility should the new owners feel the need to reconfigure.

There’s a private garden to the front of the house that leads to a walkway along the cliffs. While the walkway is public, this house doesn’t see the footfall thanks to the garden. To The back of the house has a right of way that leads to the Finure Road, so budgeting in for your own driveway and entrance could be a smart move.

For anyone looking for a quiet retreat that isn’t completely isolated, the area of Guileen might provide the right blend. It is remote and you’ll need a car, but the villages of Whitegate and Lower Aghada are a mere five minute drive away which both have offer enough for everyday living, from schools and sporting facilities to pubs and restaurants.

The Mall, Guileen, Whitegate, Co Cork is on the market for €280,000 through Colbert & Co Estate Agents.
