4 of a kind: Red brick properties with heaps of character

From mid terraces in near the city to large detached homes in the countryside.

HOME MADE WITH red brick always bring a certain level of charm to any home, whether it’s a period property or more modern build.

This week, we’ve scoured the country and found four pretty brick homes full of character and with plenty of space to start a new life in.

Clontarf, Dublin 3 – €550,000

42 Malahide Road is pretty period property that spans 108 m² and is one of a row of houses that used to be called Charlemont Terrace. Just a stroll from Dublin’s Docklands, the IFSC and the city centre, it has everything the city offers on its doorstep.

Inside, the hall leads to the living room and then the dining room. A guest toilet sits under the stairs and the kitchen has seen a recent refurb so it’s modern and sleek in style. There’s a utility off the kitchen and then a lobby that leads to the back garden that faces southeast. Upstairs, comprises three bedrooms, two of which are double and a single along with a shower room. The main bedroom looks over the front of the home and spans the length of the house.

Tullamore, Co Offaly – €360,o00

With a floor area of 153 m², this roomy red brick family home is filled with great finishes from quartz counters to pendant lights. The home comprises a large and bright open plan kitchen, dining and sitting room that has a utility room attached. There’s also a cosy lounge with a stove that heats the radiators throughout the house along with the central heating.

The main bedroom has a walk-in wardrobe and en suite bathroom. A four-bed home, the remaining three are all double and share the family bathroom. Birr and Offaly are also short trips away in the car but Tullamore is also walking distance away for those who like to leave the car at home, seeing as there is plenty of parking.

Ardee, Co Louth – €560,000

This is an even larger five-bed dormer in a quiet part of Louth. 287 m²in size and surrounded by a big private garden, it’s just a few minutes drive from the village of Ardee, so it offers great views of the countryside. Inside comprises an open plan kitchen and dining room, a sitting room, a utility, a games room and two bedrooms on the ground floor. Three more spacious bedrooms sit upstairs.

The gardens are a great feature of this house as they are home to a patio, a water fountain, seating area and an outdoor stone pizza oven, so it’s a great area to entertain in. There’s also a garage on the grounds as well as a fruit orchard and a glass house.

Drumcondra, Dublin 3 – €525,000

A classic mid terrace red brick with three bedrooms, 21 St James’s Avenue is 110 m² in size. It has its original high ceilings and period features but has also had an architect’s touch and extension in 2010. This saw the addition of a larger  kitchen and breakfast room that leads to the back garden. The hall leads to two of the bedrooms that share the family bathroom while the main bedroom is on the floor above and is en suite.

Located just off Clonliffe Road in Drumcondra, the city is a walk away and the house is in walk-in condition. There’s also the huge benefit of a landscaped garden to the back that has access, which is sure to make any future renovations and refurbishments much easier to do.
