House prices rising around the country 

Asking prices for houses outside Dublin have risen sharply with a 10.2% rise over the past year, according to the Daft.ie and MyHome.ie reports published this week. House prices in Dublin have risen by 1.1% by comparison. 

Sale of Gresham Hotel to make 2016 a record year for hotel sales 

63 hotels were sold in Ireland in 2015 and the sale of the Gresham will help to make 2016 even better for hotel sales. Already, in the first half of this year, 29 hotels worth €136 million have been sold.

  • Paddy McKillen Jr and Matt Ryan’s plans for a 70-apartment development on the former site of Kiely’s pub in Mount Merrion has been widely objected to by residents in the surrounding area, according to a report in the Irish Times this week, which notes that 336 objections to the plan have been received.
  • Brexit has triggered a spike in online Irish property searches from the UK, says a report in the Irish Times. Sherry Fitzgerald noted a 147% increase in hits on its listings on its UK sister site, Rightmove.co.uk.
