The average Dublin host is making €4,900 a year on Airbnb

People Airbnb service to host guests in their homes in Dublin collectively earned €52 million last year, according to a new report commissioned by the company.

The number of hosts in Dublin has shot up in the past number of years – with a 100% rise in just a year. 6,100 hosts let out part or all of their properties at some point for guests last year, compared to 2,960 hosts between October 2014 and September 2015.

Leinster property prices outside Dublin are set for the highest price increases

A review by the Society of Chartered Surveyors Ireland hints that all properties in the Leinster region, excluding Dublin, will see the greatest price increase: with +11% projected for one- and two-bed apartments and a rise of 10.6% forecast for three-bed semis.

By comparison, the price of a three-bed semi, which is the most popular house type, is predicted to rise by an average of 9.4% nationally.

The rental crisis is excluding more people from the market

A snapshot study by the Simon Communities in Ireland found that 83% of rental properties are priced beyond the upper limit for the Rent Supplement (RS) and the Housing Assistance Payment (HAP), further cementing the rental market crisis.

This leaves just 17% of all properties available to rent within the RS and HAP limits. The study which looked at 643 properties in 11 different areas across the country.
