Protest outside Wexford power plant

Workers have protested against their company using workers from outside the country.

PROTESTS TOOK PLACE outside the Great Island electricity generating station in Co Wexford earlier today, by some workers who are angry about the company using workers from outside the country.

About 100 people took part in the protest.

Endesa Ireland runs the company, and has proposed to construct a natural gas-fired power plant at the site, RTÉ reports.

A spokesperson for Endesa said that he understands that most of the people hired by the contractors are from Ireland. Endesa has its HQ in Spain.

All of the existing units at the Great Island power plant are at the end of their useful life span. Endesa, proposes to construct a natural gas-fired CCGT power plant.
