@Fiona Fitzgerald: “Tojo” is a highly racist term for a Japanese person; hence the name of the monkey. Clonakilty now has a beer paying homage to “Tojo the monkey”. It’s the equivalent of producing a dark stout called “N***er”, and it is wrecking the image of the town
Hideki Tojo was wartime prime minister of Japan from 1941 to 1944.
It was a racist term back in the 1940′s but died off as being racist after the prime minister was executed ..
It doesn’t wreck the image of a sound town. I’d happily go there and not drink the beer. Point taken, & Good luck with your campaign.
