Can you resist pushing the button that is driving the internet mad?

Five million people have been tempted.

IT’S PROBABLY THE best thing to come out of the whole April Fools’ Day shenanigans of yesterday – but it will also drive you insane.

Reddit has set up The Button - a countdown clock that resets to 60 seconds every time a Reddit user clicks it.

Nearly half a million people have clicked it so far

It’s almost hypnotic to watch – as each time you think it will get below 55 seconds, it resets because there are just so many people discovering it as today goes on.

The intriguing thing though, is that only people who set up Reddit accounts prior to yesterday will be allowed click The Button – and each user can only click it once.

The internet is taking notice of this odd game that is being played, and wondering how and when it will all end

There are about 1.8 million active Reddit users, so it might take some time to countdown all the way to 0. Still, given it just needs 60 seconds of inactivity, it could happen once the regular users have used up their click

We have absolutely no idea what will happen when The Button reaches 0, but we’re sure they have something planned. Now, it’s just a test to see which users will hold back their clicks until they are really needed - or get tempted and blow them straight away.

Intriguing.
