THE IRISH AND Scottish government are in a dispute over the Atlantic sea island of Rockall.
A dispute over fishing near the rock escalated in the last week after Scottish Minister for the Rural Economy Fergus Ewing accused Irish vessels of operating “illegally” in the area and suggested they could be boarded.
With all the talk about this small island, here’s a quiz about islands.

The island named after a horse is for sale for 6.75 million on daft. If I had the time I’d spend my days travelling along the islands of Ireland and Scotland and the Faroes and live on an island as well. Though it is so hard to pick one to live on, so many nice islands off our coast
@Quiet Goer: not all its cracked up to be, I moved to one the other side of the Irish sea and its full of whingers. Not a bad little island, for the most part. Not a patch on the blasketts though.

I’d love to visit more of them. I only scored 2/10, all places I’ve never been.

Knew 5/10 no questions on Shenick Island very disappointing
Wrong answer, Rathlin is 25km, not 17km. There are few sources online re this but fairly clear from the scale on any map that it isn’t the latter
@Kevin O’Hara: Plus Torr Head on the mainland Antrim coast is only 20km from Scotland. Closer again than Rathlin.

3 out of 10 done better than I thought
One of the lesser known but most beautiful island off the coast of northwest Donegal is Gola Island. So enchanting it is that it was the inspiration for Robert Louis Stevenson’s “Treasure Island” and is now the place where a fascinating writing retreat takes place, Ireland Writing Retreat, in the Donegal Gaeltacht, Gweedore.
The quiz doesn’t take into account that Achill and Valentina are connected by bridge to the mainland and so are no longer true Islands.
They’re still islands. The island that Cork city centre sits on is still an island, despite the fact that it’s connected to the rest of the city by 25 or so bridges. Britain is connected to France by a tunnel, but it is still an island.
