7 reasons Toronto is the next big city you should visit

They have much more than just maple syrup in Canada, you know.

HOW MUCH DO you know about Toronto?

Probably not as much as you should. Toronto, the province capital of Ontario, is the most populous city in Canada – it’s multicultural, cosmopolitan urban centre on a beautiful lake, full of cool things to do. A lot of people simply don’t know how much Toronto has to offer for a big city break.

If you want to get ahead of the curve and get off the beaten track then you should definitely be checking out what little-known delights Toronto has tucked away for you to find.

1. Architecture

Toronto has a beautiful skyline. As Canada’s commercial centre, many of the country’s largest firms and banks are based there and the Financial District contains many of the city’s most prominent buildings. The city also boasts the Art Gallery of Ontario, redesigned by famous architect Frank Gehry.

2. Cinematic cityscape

Due to Toronto’s beautiful cityscape, it is often used as a location for Hollywood blockbusters that are set in Chicago or New York. Think Patrick Bateman stalked the streets of Manhattan? Well, actually, American Psycho was filmed in Toronto – as well as the movie Chicago, Good Will Hunting and Get Rich or Die Tryin’.

3. Birthplace of stars

Toronto has given the world a disproportionate amount of famous people – many of whom you initially might assume are American were actually born in Canada. Proud Toronto stars include Drake, Jim Carrey, Mike Myers, Will Arnett and Eugene Levy.

4. Multiculturalism

Toronto is one of the most culturally diverse cities in the entire world. Over 140 languages are spoken there – with 30 per cent of Toronto’s residents speaking a language other than French or English.

5. Amazing food

As Toronto is such a melting pot of different cultures and nationalities, they have varied and brilliant cuisine on offer. Plus, they boast traditional Canadian foods too – like poutine, peameal Canadian bacon and, of course, the humble maple syrup.

6. Festival ready

Toronto is home to North America’s largest street festival – Caribana, a celebration of Caribbean culture. 2 million people come to Toronto’s shores for it every year, with 1.3 million attending its final parade. It lasts for two weeks and starts this year on the 31st of July.

7. Skiing and Niagara are just a hop and a skip away

For the more adventurous – the kind of people who are looking for something a little more intense than just a city break – Toronto still has lots to offer. You can ski in lots of resorts just outside the city, or take a trip to nearby Niagara to see the famous waterfall.

It’s never been easier to hop over the pond. Aer Lingus will fly direct to Toronto from the 12th of April from €239 each way including taxes and charges. That means it’s now even more worthwhile and easy to explore everything the city has to offer. Check out how you could fly for less today at aerlingus.com.

If the Palestinians want solutions to their problems they need to start at home. They have no leadership worth discussing. No point in having an independant state if you cant run it. While Israel is a large part of their problems they themselves inspire little confidence in peaceful co existance.

Meanwhile life goes on as normal
“In June, the Islamic Jihad held the “Generation of Faith” summer camp in Rafah for boys aged 6-16. The camp activities included various military exercises, such as “kidnapping soldiers,” firing guns using live ammunition, and crossing obstacle courses. The campers also heard lectures on religion, and were trained in various other fields, such as first aid, scouting, civil defense, martial arts, and behavior during emergencies”

Lovely. Mort’s post speaks volumes about the “downtrodden” Palestinians.

If you were under military occasion for forty six years , military training might seem like a good idea too ?

What are you talking about Gavan? The IDF do not target children. Hamas on the other hand like to push their own children directly into harms way. Hamas also like to use imagery taken in other conflicts and claim it as something happening in either Gaza or in the West Bank. You’ve probably never been to either Palestine or Israel and just like spouting nonsense on a topic that you are completely clueless about.

Yeah the Palestinians played up on that Muhammad al-Durrah “shooting” for years but the French Supreme court and a new review of France 2′s unedited footage have killed that lie. If, and it’s a very big if, he was shot the shots came from Palestinians. Then there are the numerous cases of them using pictures of dead and injured children from Syria and claiming them as Palestinians. Or the propaganda from Egyptian PM Kandil with the body of four year old Mahmoud Sadallah who they claimed was killed by the IAF, but the UN report found was hit by a Hamas rocket.

It’s you who seems to be both clueless and brainless Brian. The IDF have been murdering children for years , hundreds of them in both Palestine and surrounding countries, read the UN and other reports of the assault on Gaza if its not too much for you

That’s the standard excuse the IDF use, unfortunately it does not hold up, like when they attacked the UN base in Lebanon killing hundreds of people and the video evidence proved there had been no rocket fire from the base.

The UN and HRW are both on record accusing Hamas of firing indiscriminately into civilian areas, from civilian areas in the west bank, including a UN funded school. Using civilians as both targets and human shields are both considered war crimes.

The IDF use civilians as human shields, it is called the neighbour policy, and have committed more than their share of war crimes , including using white phosphorus depleted uranium munitions and the whole collective punishment of the Palestinian people, all considered war crimes under the Geneva convention.
