WITH CHRISTMAS FAST approaching, (three weeks tomorrow, eek!) it’s worth considering the impact that your Christmas habits are having on our environment.

So, how do you rank on the scale? Are you guilty of burning your wrapping paper in the fire, or do you strive to opt for environmentally guilt-free gifts each year?

Find out in our quiz whether you’ll be getting a lovely present or a sad piece of coal for your environmental impact this Christmas…

1. What do you usually do with all the wrapping leftover on Christmas morning?
Shutterstock
I try to salvage some of the fancier bits for next year and the rest go in the recycling
A lot of it tends to go in the bin, if I'm honest

I'll throw the excess bits in the fire - cheaper than briquettes, isn't it?
2. Where do all the boxes from presents tend to end up on Stephen's Day?
Shutterstock
I'll take them to the recycling centre once I digest all that turkey
I might shove a few in the bin, but most are recycled

They'll go into whichever bin that will fit them
3. What are you most likely to opt for as a Christmas drink?
Shutterstock
A gin and tonic, please
A few cans wouldn't go amiss

A homemade cup of hot chocolate, of course
4. What are your preferences when it comes to Christmas trees?
Shutterstock
It has to be real, as long as we don't have to drive too far to get it
There's nothing wrong with an artificial one

It really depends on the year
5. What do you do with it once New Year's arrives?
Shutterstock
I bring it to the local authority
I just stick it in the bin and hope for the best

I will usually drive and leave it in a forest
6. You get a fairly questionable jumper as a gift, what do you do with it?
Shutterstock
Bring it to the recycling centre
Give it to a charity shop

I'll just hide it at the back of my wardrobe
7. How do you usually wish people Happy Christmas?
Shutterstock
I send them all Christmas cards
Whatsapps are fine, surely?

If I'm buying them a present, I'll get a tag and put a message in that
8. What do you do with all those unwanted biographies?
Shutterstock
I'll bring them to the charity shop, eventually
I'll throw them in a bag and shove it wherever I can't see it

It's easiest just to bin them to be honest
9. Where do you tend to spend Christmas?
Shutterstock
In my own home or at a family member's within the same county
We travel to elsewhere in Ireland

We tend to go abroad to celebrate it
10. Who is your ultimate Christmas movie hero?
Shutterstock
Kevin McCallister (Home Alone)
Buddy the Elf (Elf)

Susan Walker (Miracle on 34th Street)

You're naughty when it comes to recycling.
Sometimes you don't have a chance to be as kind to the environment as you'd like, and tend to throw packaging and wrapping in the bin instead of recycling. Why not try to shop with a Repak member this year as a start?

You're somewhere in between when it comes to recycling
During the year you try your best to recycle but the environment isn't first on your list at Christmas. Why not try to do your shopping from a business that is committed to recycling? Have a look on Repak.ie for ideas.

You're nice when it comes to recycling.
You're always careful to salvage the best of the wrapping paper for next year and to recycle the umpteen boxes that congregate in your house each Christmas. You pick presents that last and Santa will be good to you.
