Fianna Fáil is now level with Fine Gael in popularity

The news comes in the findings from a Red C opinion poll conducted for the Sunday Business Post.

IT’S JUST UNDER three months since the general election, and now Fianna Fáil has drawn level with Fine Gael in terms of popularity.

A new Red C poll conducted for the Sunday Business Post shows that after an exceptionally close election result Fianna Fáil has bridged the gap between itself and its old foe.

The two largest parties now stand tied on 26% approval apiece from the electorate.

That compares to after the election result which saw Fine Gael on 26% and Fianna Fáil on 24%.

Sinn Féin remains unchanged on 15% post-election.

The Independent Alliance meanwhile has dropped slightly in popularity by one percentage point to 4%. Other independents meanwhile are up 2% to 11% approval.

Labour has seen a slight change in its fortunes for the better with a 2% jump to 6%.

The poll was conducted among 1,000 voters over four days last week.

The full poll results are:

  • Fine Gael 26% (-1)
  • Fianna Fáil 26% (+1)
  • Sinn Féin 15% (no change)
  • Independents 11% (+2)
  • Independent Alliance 4% (-1)
  • Labour 6% (+2)
  • AAA-PBP 5% (+1)
  • Social Democrats 4% (-1)
  • Green Party 2% (-1)
  • Renua less than 1% (-1)
  • Others less than 1% (no change)
