One in four people are struggling to make ends meet - survey

However, a Red C/Sunday Business Post survey today also reveals that 41% a third are comfortable.

THE BIGGEST ISSUE facing people struggling to make ends is a difficult in finding employment, according to a new survey.

A Red C/Sunday Business Post poll asked people about their own financial situation, and also their thoughts on the future of the economy.

It found that 31% of peole are “living comfortably”, while the majority at 41% are “neither comfortable, nor struggling”.

However, 28% of people are “struggling to make ends meet”.

This is despite continuing signs of recovery in the economy, and a rise in consumer sentiment.

For those struggling to make ends meet, the biggest reasons for economic uncertainty were:

  • Difficult to find jobs (24%)
  • Higher living costs/bills (19%)
  • The threat of more taxation (18%).

For those living comfortably:

  • No trust in politicians (15%)
  • Difficult to find jobs (12%)
  • Fear of redundancy (10%)

For those neither comfortable, nor struggling:

  • Difficult to find jobs (21%)
  • No trust in politicians (20%)
  • Fear of redundancy (19%)
