Renewed appeal for missing Aengus Shanahan 12 years on

Known as ‘Gussie’, he was last seen in Limerick city on this day 12 years ago.

GARDAÍ HAVE RENEWED an appeal for information about Aengus Shanahan who has been missing for exactly 12 years.

Better known as ‘Gussie’, the then 20-year-old was last seen on the night of Friday, 11 February 2000 at around 10.30pm when he left Coopers Bar (now Eric’s bar) on St Joseph Street in Limerick.

Gussie is the youngest in a family of four and lived with his parents on Ennis Road in Limerick. He worked for Dell and on the day he went missing he had finished work at their Castletroy offices before heading to meet friends that afternoon at Coopers Bar.

He was due to stay the night with friends in St Joseph Street but did not so so. He left the bar at 10.30pm and was last seen walking from there onto Old School House Lane which connects to Barrington Street.

He was described at the time as being 5 foot 10 inches in height, of thin build, weighing around 10 stone with a pale complexion and short, fair hair.

Gardaí have said that at this stage they would hope that people who may have useful information and who have not contacted them previously could do so now.
