A MAN WHO sent his supervisor texts containing the words ‘rape’ and ‘kill’ has been ordered to stay away from his former boss and her place of work.
Derek Leggett, aged 52 and from Tara Lawns in Ashbourne, was yesterday sentenced to 3 years in prison with the judge taking his remorse into consideration.
Some of that sentence was suspended, and when combined with time already served – 21 months – Leggett was allowed to go free.
The court heard how he had sent 17 texts to his supervisor, one of which read “Call the cops before I rape my next victim”, according to The Irish Daily Star (print edition).
Leggett had previously been denied a request for a work transfer at the Customs and Excise Department at Dublin Airport.
Newstalk reports that Leggett had a history of mental health and alcohol problems. He’s been ordered to stay away from his former supervisor, who had originally discovered that he was sending her texts after she rang his phone and recognised his voice.
