21-year-old dies in river Lee while swimming with friends

The man got into difficulty at about 1am this morning and was pronounced dead at the scene.

GARDAÍ ARE INVESTIGATING the death of a 21-year-old man who drowned in the early hours of this morning in Cork.

A number of people were swimming in the river Lee at the time and one male got into difficulty.

Gardaí and the fire service were alerted to the incident at about 1am. The man was recovered from the water and removed to Cork University Hospital.

It is understood that he was pronounced dead at the scene.
