A living nightmare for children and their families.
Over 2.3 million Yemeni children, under the age of five, are now malnourished. 400,000 of these children are suffering from Severe Acute Malnutrition (SAM), the most life-threatening form of malnutrition.
Rawabi
Rawabi is just one of 400,000 children under five years old who are suffering from severe acute malnutrition. Her situation is so critical that she is at risk of dying without urgent medical treatment.
At seven months old, Rawabi should be learning to sit up on her own, to crawl and to respond to the sound of her name. Instead, she is in hospital in Yemen’s capital, Sana’a.
Half of Yemen’s hospitals have been destroyed by fighting. Those that are left are struggling to cope with COVID-19 and the rise in malnutrition cases, which are expected to increase further during the summer months.
Right now, Yemen is facing unprecedented levels of hunger. The existing crisis has now been worsened by Coronavirus, with food supply chains being disrupted and medicines in short supply.
Children in Yemen are facing a daily struggle to survive in what is the world’s worst humanitarian crisis.
But you can help them by providing lifesaving supplies. Please donate to UNICEF today.
