‘Working as an Auctioneering Apprentice allowed me to learn on the job’
Harry Angel works with DNG, and will receive his auctioneering licence this year.
For Harry Angel, working as an Auctioneering Apprentice allowed him to get involved in his desired industry straight away.
“I began my Auctioneering Apprentice experience in September 2020 by working as an Apprentice Negotiator with DNG. I work for DNG four days a week, and attend the apprenticeship in Auctioneering and Property Services in Ballsbridge every Wednesday.
I had undertaken a week of work experience in DNG for Transition Year and knew I was really interested in the business. The mix of being in the office some of the time and out meeting people other times was very appealing to me. So, when I heard that there was a way of learning on the job rather than studying full time for four years, I knew it was the option I would prefer. I find it easier to learn through physically carrying out the tasks, listening and seeing how and what my colleagues do on a day-to-day basis. The lectures and assignments for college have complemented what I’ve been doing day-to-day and make a lot of sense when I can see what happens on the ground. Earning while learning is another reason why I chose the apprenticeship over the university course.
I’m looking forward to getting my auctioneering licence in June and to be able to undertake all of the various roles of the estate agents’ job as I will then be fully qualified. Eventually, I would like to see myself as a partner in DNG, which I know will take time!”
