Is it different from Maternity, Paternity or Parental leave?
Here’s all you need to know.
Parent’s Leave
Who gets it? Parents during the child’s first year (or in their child’s first year of adoption)
For how long? Two weeks
Is it paid? Yes. Parent’s Benefit is paid for two weeks.
Parental Leave
Who gets it? Parents and guardians of children under 12
For how long? 22 weeks (this will increase to 26 weeks in September 2020)
Is it paid? No.
Maternity Leave
Who gets it? Female employees.
For how long? 26 weeks paid and up to 16 additional weeks unpaid.
Is it paid? Yes. Maternity Benefit is paid for 26 weeks.
Paternity Leave
Who gets it? Fathers or new parents of children under 6 months of age (but not the mother of the child)
For how long? Two weeks.
Is it paid? Yes. Paternity Benefit is paid for 2 weeks
Adoptive Leave
Who gets it? Adoptive mothers, or men adopting alone.
For how long? 24 weeks paid and up to 16 additional weeks unpaid.
Is it paid? Yes. Adoptive Benefit is paid for 24 weeks.
