Serves: 4
Cook time: 15 mins
Pair with: Australian Barossa Valley Shiraz, €8.99, available exclusively at Lidl.
Allow your beef burgers to come to room temperature before cooking – that way, they’ll cook more evenly!
What you’ll need
4 whole beef burgers
4 whole brioche buns
Pickles
Tomatoes, sliced
Red cheddar slices
Red onion slices
Lettuce
Tomato ketchup or relish
Mayonnaise
What to do
1. Heat the barbecue to medium hot. Lightly brush 1 side of each burger with vegetable oil
2. Place the burgers, oil-side down, on the barbecue. Cook for 5 minutes until the meat is lightly charred. Don’t move them around or they may stick
3. Oil the other side and then turn over using tongs. Don’t press down on the meat, as that will squeeze out the juices
4. Cook for 5 minutes more for medium. If you like your burgers pink in the middle, cook 1 min less each side. For well done, cook 1 min more
5. Take the burgers off the barbecue. Leave to rest on a plate so that all the juices can settle inside
6. Slice 4 burger buns in half. Place, cut-side down, on the barbecue rack and toast for 1 min until they are lightly charred.
7. Place lettuce, tomato, red onion and cheese on the bottom half of the burger bun and then add the beef burger, add pickles also, then top with your choice of accompaniment – ketchup, mayonnaise or relish and finish off with the top half of the bun and enjoy
