WATCH: RNLI captures year of Irish rescues on video

The RNLI has taken part in a large amount of searches and rescues throughout Ireland this year, often in dangerous conditions.

ITS VOLUNTEERS BRAVE the weather and deep seas to help rescue people and take part in searches around Ireland’s coastline.

2013 saw the RNLI taking part in a large number of incidents, often in incredibly bad weather or dangerous conditions.

This video captures what life as an RNLI volunteer is like, and how the members keep calm under pressure.

A charity where good people risk their own safety for others! Well worth supporting as it’s not about financial reward.

While their good work and duties are to be commended, it’s high time we formed our own lifeboat service and no longer had to depend on a “Royal” institution nor the queen’s shilling. A republican lifeboat service for a free and proud republic.

I’m sure that’s exactly what the money should be spent on. Rebranding. Not upkeep of a perfectly good service. On that note. Complain to an post too. Seen most of there boxes. A lot of our lamp posts drain covers too carry the logo.

Obviously you ‘ve never needed their services because when you do you won’t give a shite what their name is!
Brilliant work by these guys and the only charity I donate to. The majority of us in inland counties haven’t a clue what these brave men and women do until we are in the unfortunate position of needing them

If you needed to be assisted at sea in an emergency would you tell the RNLI to go back to their boat house due to the fact that their name has “Royal” in it? And you don’t want to rely on “the Queens shilling”? If so you are the thickest person I’ve ever seen comment on thejournal.ie. I personally do a fair amount of fundraising for the RNLI and I also know they do a fantastic job. The fact that they are volunteers make them even more appreciated. I’ve needed the help of the lifeboat from Dun Laighaire once before and I have my utmost respect for ever crew around the country, the mechanics, operational staff etc.
I seen that someone commented saying you are a dinosaur… They’re right!!!

When your lungs have given their last gasp and are filling up with water they won’t remind you they don’t get any “Shillings” but do it for free and put their lives on the line for anyone who needs them.
