Elderly cyclist dies after falling off his bicycle

The incident happened in Cork yesterday afternoon.

A 71-YEAR-OLD cyclist has died from injuries he suffered after falling off a bicycle in Cork.

The incident happened near Eyeries yesterday afternoon at about 4.40pm when the man was out cycling with a group of his colleagues.

Gardaí say the man then came off his bicycle and stuck the ground on the Castletownbere to Ardgroom Road. His colleagues administered CPR at the scene with a local doctor then tending to him.

A short time later the man was pronounced dead by the doctor.

His body was removed to Cork University Hospital where a post-mortem was due to take place.

The road was closed for a period to facilitate investigators with witnesses being asked to contact gardaí.
