Two people killed in separate overnight road crashes

Both incidents took place in the early hours of this morning.

TWO PEOPLE HAVE been killed in two overnight traffic accidents in Dublin.

Gardaí in Clontarf are investigating a single vehicle accident which occurred at Fairview.

The collision occurred at 1.52am when a car collided with a pole at Fairview with the junction of the Malahide road.

The three occupants were seriously injured in the collision.

A female passenger in her 20s was taken to the Mater hospital where she was later pronounced dead.

A male, aged 20-years-old, was taken to St James hospital where his condition is described as stable. The driver, aged 26-years-old was taken to Beaumont hospital where his condition is described as critical.

The road is closed for a forensic collision examination and diversions are in place.

In a separate accident, one person was killed in a single vehicle crash on the N81 Blessington Road.

The collision occurred at approximately 2.40am when a car collided with a tree on the N81 at Brittas.

There were five occupants in the car at the time of the collision.

One male, aged 21-years-old, was seriously injured and pronounced dead at the scene.

The four males who were also in the car were aged, 19, 20, 21 and 22-years-old.

They were taken to Tallaght and St Vincent’s hospitals for treatment and their conditions are described as non life threatening.

As a result, the N81 Dublin /Blessington Road is closed in both directions between Brittas and Citywest and diversions are in place.
