'In the evening we have the blinds closed and the fire blazing': Declan shares his warm and welcoming lounge

Declan describes his style as ‘classic country cottage’.

Each week, we ask someone based in Ireland with a passion for interiors to share one photo of their favourite spot in their home.

This week, Declan (@robinsons_corner) chatted us through his favourite spot: his sitting room.

What do you love about this part of your home?

I love the brightness of this room in the summer. Sun streams all day through the south-facing sash windows. I also love how cosy it becomes in the winter with the blinds closed and the open fire blazing. It’s the perfect place to unwind and relax anytime of the year.

What’s your favourite object in here and why?

That’s a tough one. It’s probably our two Parker Knoll fireside chairs that we lounge in every evening, or else our antique sofa table in the bay window displaying photos of our nearest and dearest.

Be honest: How much tidying did you do before taking this photo?

Honestly very little. There’s only the two of us here so it’s easy to keep tidy. Anybody who knows us will vouch that we are clean freaks!

What was your inspiration when you were putting this room together?

As an interior decorator, I am borderline obsessed with interiors. I typically stick to a neutral base palette but I adore colour and inject it into every space I can by layering fabrics and soft furnishings. The first thing I bought for this room was the Voyage Maison throw, which you can see on the sofa. I designed the entire room around this. I guess my style would be ‘classic country cottage’ – and this room really sums that up.

Is there anything in here you’d like to change?

There’s honestly nothing at the moment, but as my creative mind is always in overdrive I wouldn’t rule anything out.
