BRITISH ACTOR RON Moody, who played Fagin in the 1968 hit movie Oliver!, has died aged 91, his family said.

Moody won a best actor Oscar nomination for his portrayal of the villain in the musical adaptation of Oliver Twist by Charles Dickens, a role he had previously played on stage.

The London-born actor, who also appeared in numerous television shows, had been ill for some time and died in hospital, his agent said.

“He brought joy to his family and to the hearts of many and will be greatly missed. He was singing until the end,” his widow Therese said. Moody also leaves six children.
