RTÉ series will be available in the catalogue of online streaming service Netflix from Saturday.

Netflix to add RTÉ series to online catalogue this weekend

RTÉ series like The Clinic, Killinaskully and Trivia will be available to Netflix subscribers in Ireland and the UK from this Saturday.

RTÉ AND NETFLIX have announced a deal which will see several of the national broadcasters’ series added to the online streaming service’s catalogue from this weekend.

From Saturday, series like The Clinic, Trivia and Killinaskully will be available to Netflix subscribers in both Ireland and the UK.

Other series including Raw will be available to Ireland-based subscribers only.

The announce comes a month after Netflix announced that its UK and Ireland user base had passed the one million mark – only eight months after launching in the region, making it one of the most successful launches the service had carried out.

Netflix vice-president Kelly Merryman said the service was “thrilled to partner with RTÉ to add these great Irish TV shows to our growing catalogue of serialised TV.

“We know these TV favourites will be enjoyed by our members in Ireland and are excited for them to find a new audience as we introduce them to our Irish and UK members,” he said.

RTÉ Digital’s director of content and strategy Aisling McCabe said the broadcaster’s goal was to “ensure viewers can view their favourite RTÉ programmes everywhere and anywhere”.

Reaching an agreement with Netflix “gives viewers even more choice,” she said.

Earlier this year RTÉ and TV3 launched a content-sharing service with UPC, where subscribers to the latter’s TV service can access the RTÉ Player and 3 Player through their set-top boxes.

The arrangement with Netflix means RTÉ content can now also be viewed through video games consoles, systems like Apple TV, and internet-connected TVs.
