This SD card (likely) offers more storage space than your laptop

The SD card, which was launched by SanDisk, offers 512GB of storage space, but it doesn’t come cheap.

MAINLY USED WITH digital and DSLR cameras, SD cards have found use with smartphones (mainly Android and Windows Phone devices) as owners look for extra storage without paying extra for a phone.

However, if the idea of an extra 64GB or 128GB isn’t enough for you, you may want to look at SanDisk, a company that specialises in flash storage.

It has released an 512GB version, the largest amount of storage space offered by an SD card.

The company says that the card is aimed at pro-level photographers who want to take high-speed burst mode photography and videographers who want to shoot footage in 4K definition or Full HD video.

While the size of a 4K video depends on factors like compression, a minute long video tends to roughly take up 5GB of storage.

The card doesn’t come cheap though, it will cost you $799 (€618) to avail of it, but chances are if you pay that much up for one, you’re serious about your craft.

The company said that the release of its 512GB SD card represents a 1,000-fold capacity increase in the space its cards offer in just over a decade. The first SD card it released in 2003 only had 512MB of space.
